In the early stages of the project there may be limited data for students to compare their results to when they download the Project Data (all data from all schools). During the early months of the project, participants should be engaged in authentic data gathering and reporting through the Action Project Dashboard (See Action 1 module). It will take several months of the school year to accumulate data from across Canada. If you download project data early in the school year, your results may not include many of the school groups that have not posted their data yet.
Group data download is available to the teacher but will only pull down data for a single class. This is useful for reporting and trend analysis within the submission date for that class, but can also be used for comparisons with other classes participating within the same teachers action project.
For activities comparing one group against the data for the county, if might be best to check back in several months when more classrooms have submitted their results. The sample available for comparison then should lead to rich data analysis activities.
