Please Note: If you or fellow educators are planning on using mobile devices such as ipads in the classroom please contact your IT department in advance of launching the Living Space unit during the preparation phase. Canadian school divisions (as per union contracts) require that most software be installed by an IT admin. If such is the case, please have them install the appropriate software provided in the link below to get your Living Space unit moving!
The action project uses micro:bits and you and the students will be programming the micro:bits on an internet site and downloading from the site to your computer. The micro:bits then connect to your computer to download the programs you have written. If your students are using iPads they will need to download additional software to communicate with the micro:bits. It is easier for you and the students if they are using computers however it is possible to complete all the work with iPads. For a detailed, step by step description of the process go to
http://microbit.org/guide/mobile/ for assistance.
The course material is available online therefore it is advantageous for teachers to have a computer so that you can display videos and questions to the students. However it is possible to download that material and print it out if you would prefer to do so. There is also a version of the material that students can use directly if they have online access. If students can use their iPads to connect online they will be able to access the material in that way.
