Watch: A two minute introduction video to BBC micro:bit
To see how you can program the BBC micro:bit, follow the instructions on the BBC micro:bit web site: http://microbit.org/guide/quick/.
Check out the Living Space Minds on 1 Quick Start Resource: http://explorecuriocity.org/Portals/4/ecfl/Living_Space_microbit_Quick_Start.pdf
You can start coding without connecting a micro:bit, by opening a browser and visiting https://makecode.microbit.org/
Using the USB cable, you can quickly connect the micro:bit to a Chromebook, Linux, Mac, or Windows computer. Although it's a little trickier and not the best for coding, you can connect iPads and other devices through Bluetooth: Go to http://microbit.org/guide/mobile/ for assistance.
Copying your finished code to the micro:bit is like saving a file to a USB flashdrive. Check out the Living Space resource: Go to Step 3 of http://explorecuriocity.org/lsap/#/StudentMindsOn1/1.3
